Rebecca Grewal, owner of the two shops, said the new building was needed for Grewal Law, husband Mick Grewal's law firm, which previously operated in a smaller space in Northville and needed more room.

"It's experiencing growth. It has been for the last five years or six years, so this was just a really nice addition," she said. "And it allowed us to put kind of a headquarters here. And it's just beautiful."

The coffee shop and retail store opened earlier in June.

Grewal said the coffee shop prides itself on making unique drinks that are popular in places like India, England and elsewhere.

"This is what you would get in an Indian home. And we wanted to share that," she said. "The process of making it is a lot different. There are no syrups or concentrates in ours. It's the old way."

While she wants to bring flavor to Northville, Grewal also wants to bring fashion. A fashion designer who spent time working in New York, she returned to her native Michigan and began creating clothing here. Several pieces in Revir are her own creation, manufactured at her warehouse near Lansing.

She realized she wanted to be closer to home and decided to return to Michigan several years ago. Once here, Grewal said she worked to build up a fashion industry here, finding employees and designing clothing.

It's the first brick-and-mortar location Revir clothing can be purchased: she's had an online store for about a year.

She's worked at creating fashion pieces out of Michigan Fashion Proto for more than a decade, though she said she did halt production and switch to creating personal protective equipment to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Her facility helped make gowns and masks to provide to health care professionals of all kinds.

"We wound up supplying, I think it was over 75 different facilities," she said. "And then we wound up getting to them all the dentists, because everyone forgot about them."

Grewal said she hopes to continue to grow her brand and expand, opening in other communities similar to Northville. That feeling, she said, is what she wants to experience at each of her stores.

"The hope is to grow into more locations in charming towns in Michigan," she said. "Everything I've done since I moved back from New York is about Michigan.

"This town was the perfect place to start it."
