CLINTON - For Bethany Morrill, being creative and creating jewelry is nothing new. The Boylston native who moved to Clinton three years ago has been doing it since middle school. "I used to visit with my aunt and uncle in Cambridge and we would visit bead shops in Boston and all over New England and make things out of our creations," she said. But a family death changed things a bit. "After my grandfather died, my cousin maDe bracelets for my mom, sister and I from the flowers," she said. "A few weeks later, I lost my mom and asked my cousin to show my sister and I how to make the beads. I started making the dried flower beads after my mother passed away from her funeral flowers and it took off from there." Now, she is selling jewelry made with these beads, called Beads of Hope. "The beads are 100% handmade by me. The flowers are dried and mixed with translucent clay and formed into the beads," Morrill said. "After a process of baking and glazing, they are made into the jewelry and keepsakes I have been selling at craft fairs." The name, Beads of Hope, came because when she started the company, she was making jewelry and donating proceeds to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. "My mom had MS and I used my hobby as a fundraiser, but after she passed away, I focused on the dried flower beads. Morrill sells her beaded jewelry mostly at craft fairs, and has set up several times at the Sterling Street Market, but also has some items in Soulstice Gifts, in Holden, as well and an Etsy shop. Her most popular items are earrings and bookmarks. "Most people are shocked the beads contain dried flowers, they almost do a double take when they see the sign on the table," she said. She does custom orders, using new or old flowers. "I love being able to give people a keepsake from a special event or a memory of a loved one," she said. When she is not selling at craft fairs, Morrill is working in the emergency department of a hospital as a registered nurse.
