The bargain Huddersfield shop selling luxury clothes for 70 per cent off - and the humble couple behind it - Yorkshire Live

The owners of a Huddersfield shop selling "luxury clothes without the price" have claimed punters can get big-brand products 70 per cent cheaper than on the high street. Shane Phelan and Jessica Cullen own Moda Imperiale in Huddersfield town centre's Imperial Arcade. The shop sells huge brands such as Topshop, Dorothy Perkins and Jack Wills for a fraction of their original retail price. The couple started buying and selling clothes on eBay before opening their first store two months ago. Some of the biggest deals in the shop include a pair of shoes from Topshop with an RRP price of £59. The boots are on sale for £20. But they say their best sellers are Topshop jeans at between £20 and £22. The couple, from Quarmby, are able to sell the clothes on the cheap as they buy stock in bulk from other vendors at auction. The stock is usually made up of surplus items from other stores, as well as 'end of line' clothes, and usually goes to the highest bidder, meaning Shane and Jessica can sometimes spend as much as £10,000 on one lot. Some of their stock also comes from big brands that have gone into liquidation. Jessica, 29, said: "We like to keep our prices low so that it is still a bargain for the consumer, but also so that we can make some money out of it as well. People still want luxuries but they don't want to spend too much on it. "People seem to love it. We don't have everything in every size so you can't walk in and out in two minutes. You have to come in and be really open-minded. A lot of customers spend an hour looking for things. Sometimes they might find one thing, other times they might find 10." Shane, 32, added: "Everyone is feeling it at the moment so we'd sooner have more customers and sell things for less than limit ourselves to fewer customers. We sell on numbers and we try to sell 30 to 40 items per day. We have a lot of regulars and we have met a lot of people from it." Shane and Jessica, who both work full-time as well as running the shop, hit the national headlines earlier this week. They say hundreds of people have contacted them to ask for their eBay store - Moda Imperiale - since. Said Jessica: "We have had around 200 messages on Facebook asking for our eBay store - and they are coming from all over the country. Someone messaged us from Malaysia! As long as we keep our socials and eBay up to date then we get a lot of custom through there as well." The pair are now looking to expand the business even further. Said Shane: "We're hoping to get into a much bigger store. Clothing brands are always bringing out new lines and new designs and that's when they want to get rid of their old stuff." Read next:
